Bixbee's social mission sees them use the power of business to provide access to education for children in need in countries such as Rwanda, Haiti, India and the Philippines.

Co-founder Luis Garcia had spent two decades designing products for luxury brands such as Ralph Lauren Fragrances, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and Sephora.

Then, in 2010, he jumped on a plane to spend five months volunteering with children in developing countries, spending time in schools and orphanages in India, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar.

While at an orphanage in India, Luis handed out pencils to a classroom of excited children and their enthusiasm for something so simple — something we take for granted — made a deep impression on him.

He then returned to San Francisco, determined to help these children who were eager for an education but lacked basic supplies.

So with his background in product design and development, he partnered with Kalon Gutierrez to launch Schoolbags for Kids — a line of lightweight, ergonomic and fashionable kids' backpacks.

And since their launch in 2011, they have donated thousands of supply-filled school bags to children in need.
